Case Study: Scottish Power

Client: Scottish Power
Location: Southeast & Midlands
Measure: Whole-House Retrofit (Multiple Energy Efficiency Measures)
Value: £4.7 million
Delivery Period: June 2023 – December 2024

Project Brief:

Scottish Power commissioned IZ Energy to deliver a large-scale retrofit programme across 325 homes under the ECO scheme. The goal was to reduce carbon emissions, improve SAP ratings, and help households out of fuel poverty. We managed the entire process – from lead generation to installation and compliance –  with zero compromise on quality or safety.

Project Overview

This was a full turnkey programme covering homes across multiple regions. Each property was assessed individually to determine eligibility and scope. Installations were coordinated under PAS 2035 standards, with ongoing QA and resident support throughout the delivery phase.

Key Measures Installed:

  • External wall insulation (EWI)
  • Flat roof insulation
  • Internal wall insulation
  • Loft and cavity wall insulation
  • Heating system upgrades (ASHP, high-efficiency boilers)
  • Ventilation improvements

Challenges & Solutions:

Challenge: Multi-Site, Multi-Measure Coordination
Managing hundreds of installs across varying property types demanded tight control of logistics, access, and compliance.
Solution: We developed a structured mobilisation plan, brought in Retrofit Coordinators early, and maintained real-time oversight through digital platforms like Buildertrend.
Challenge: Resident Engagement & Site Access
Working in occupied homes required ongoing communication and access planning.
Solution: Our Resident Liaison Officers supported households through every stage – from initial surveys to handover – ensuring smooth access and clear communication.

Project Outcome:

  • SAP ratings increased from E to C across all homes
  • Residents saving an average of £460 per year on energy bills
  • Estimated 1.6 tonnes of CO₂ saved per property annually
  • All works delivered under PAS 2035/2030 standards, with zero compromise on quality or safety

Benefits:

This project shows how large-scale retrofit delivery can be both technically sound and resident-friendly. Through strong collaboration with Scottish Power and clear communication with residents, IZ Energy delivered long-term value – reducing energy demand, improving home comfort, and supporting the UK’s decarbonisation targets.
